I am importing years of Hi8 footage into iMovie 11 (running Mountain Lion) via Canopus ADVC110 and capturing it directly onto an external hard drive. I select an event and mark footage to reject (for now only the end of tape snowy stuff that kept recording when I was not there to actually stop the record). When I tell iMovie to "Move Rejected Clips to Trash" it freezes! I do a Force Quit and when it reopens, the Event name is still there but the footage is gone? It is still on the external but not in iMovie! I've done this three times with different events and the same thing happens each time? Any suggestions?

iMovie won't remove rejected clips and doesn't recognize footage after Force Quit!

Yes. Don't tell iMovie to move rejected clips to the trash. If it keeps crashing when you do that, it obviously doesn't like it.
