Use www.uppidy.com - great service and it's free. You can search text messages, etc.

Several folks at my firm use decipher text message to save all our texts to our computers. Works good. Easy to run. www.deciphertools.com

I also use decipher. It works well.

I am really impressed with the ease of this program - it works without even connecting my iphone to my PC. Very impressed.
Yes! Tried this app called "All Your Texts" and I absolutely love it. It keeps both the texts and your picture messages. The only thing that seems wrong with it is that it only works for windows, so since I have a Mac I'd have to save all my texts on my windows partition, which sucks because I barely use it. They need to really work on releasing a Mac version and I think it would be the best SMS application for saving text messages. I tried to us uppidy like another user said but that one worked to no avail. So I'd suggest this one since it actually works and its only $4. Try it, I think you may like it

Try 'PhoneView' for the Mac. It saves texts and does a lot more...

Help! desparate to restore texts from my beau on my 3GS...

my iphone has been doing wacky things lately (I got it June of '10) and one of them is that it will suddenly flip to "clear all previous messages?" when I'm reading texts and I've always caught it and stopped it. Apparently it did it while I was no watching this time, phone must've been in my pocket or purse, but regardless, suddenly my 5 months worth of texting from this incredible person is GONE and I am really really sad. I would like them restored on my phone but if that's not possible I'll go the computer route, just to have them back again.
HELP?!?!?!

I synced my phone to download photos a couple months ago but not recently.... I'm SOOL, aren't I?

Is it worth $19 to get online with an Apple person to "chat" through this issue?

You're pretty much screwed. Sorry

SMS backup created by iTunes can be found here:

Windows 7:C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows XP: %APPDATA% = C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\

Then you can use using SQLite reader to extact. Also, there is a possibilty to copy or transfer SMS to computer as a text/mht format using some third party programs.
