How can I split video?

open video in quicktime and trim the clip to the 20-30 seconds..
then export
simple as that..

What if I don't have Quicktime Pro?
Split video in Mavericks
Apparently, MPEG Streamclip's split video functionality no longer works in Mavericks.
Is there an alternative (free, that does not re-encode the video like Movie Player does)?
DETAILS: Specifically, "Streamclip -> Edit -> In" just brings cursor back to 0 second (instead of marking the "in" point).
Other functionality (such as "Streamclip -> File -> Export") seem to still work.

Quicktime (or iMovie etc) re-encodes the video
(thus takes forever to clip long videos. In addition, will loose some quality).
