Just for anyone suffering issues on latest iMacs

Hi

Since getting my 2013 iMac it just didn't feel right .... some apps were crashing, wifi speeds were generally appalling, my previously good internet connection was flakier, mouse-movement was juddering at times

I had multiple calls to AppleCare, in which they did a variety of things to try and fix these issues and some of the things seemed to help for a while

Anyway, the final call the guy really suggested reinstalling OSX ... now i thought given this was a new computer with new software installed this was just BS and i resisted until this weekend.

Since 10.8.3 came out and the MAppStore version was finally supported i downloaded the image, create a nice fast USB3 installer key and went for it.

All i can say is 'WOW' the difference is staggering...

My internet & wifi is better than its EVER been on ANY device/computer, everything is more stable etc (screenshot attached).

For reference, my ISP gives me a quoted 100mbit connection and on any other computer and previous mac and new mac with factory build i would get anywhere from 65 - 75mbit. Now, its actually exceeding the 100 (given its fibre to the box and the box is about 3m from my front door i was told i'd get max performance!!!)

I also took the liberty of doing a 'roll your own' fusion drive with the lacie SSD, thats making everything lovely and snappy and i can now do a proper bootcamp install too.

Very happy that i'm finally getting the mac i paid for ... i think there must be something off about the factory image ... but i'd recommend a fresh install of 10.8.3

Very good....

for the OP. Can be anecdotal, but still works for the OP. More to fundament my belief about 10.8 as one unfinished product. Come on, 13 or something betas before release?....

Anyways, hope this info is useful and kudos to the OP.

Hope for you, you have unlimited internet, these speed test add up fast, in your case 12.5 MB per second.

Yup, and much cheaper than the US with it's exorbitant internet and phone subscriptions.
The good thing about "socialist" Europe is we have Neelie Smith Kroes, she already changed quite a few things like cheaper European roaming costs, and she is also responsible for most Europeans to have fast internet, she wants everyone to have cheap and fast internet in Europe.

Oh, and if you like beers Belgium is the place to go to, not the UK.
(Belgium has something like 1500 brands of beer.)

I just had Fiber installed - supposed to be 25Mb down/10Mb up. The Fiber line comes right inside to where my computer is. What a difference from my previous 8Mb DSL which really slowed down during peak usage periods, my Fiber connection remains at this speed regardless of local internet traffic.

I am in Nottingham, UK.
I pay £65 ($100 or so) a month for my cable Internet with no cap, cable tv (couple hundred channels of crap) and phone service

I am in Cheshire UK.

I pay £15 per month for my Internet with no cap (includes free anytime phone and line rental).
And if you are talking about the same cable tv company that I think you are. I totally agree with you. I will only pay them £10 per month to use their box .(recording facility, pause etc)

Just spent last evening at our local "British" pub. Very authentic! Had some Shepard's Pie and a few pints of Bass on tap. Heaven! Me mum would have been proud!

$100/month for 100Mb speed is incredible, but is your service Fiber or Cable? I hear Cable is a 'shared' front-end and so slows down when many users are on it. Paying $389/month for mine.

I have the same Internet package as you and pretty much get the 100Mbps all the time on my wired machines.

I have a Mac mini upstairs on WIFI and never get more than 70Mbps on that. what Wifi AP are you using? I am using Virgin's one as A modem with an apple Airport extreme behind it.

I'm using a Netgear WNDR3700v3

Getting definitely 100mbit+ over 802.11n 5Ghz wifi

Its a dual-band multi antenna one (like airport extreme) so have a g network separate.

I did research to find fastest one in tests ... this one ain't bad and can do TimeMachine too etc

My service is cable but our neighborhood was cabled in by the main national company during construction so we're well provisioned... the nearest node like i said is about 3m away from front door but we have at least 6 or 7 on our small estate

I never get bandwidth issues.... in July getting bumped to 120mbit too plus its fully uncapped....

Just installed Diablo 3 today again and was getting 13.1mbyte / sec
