Remove recent photos from the Message.app profile section when updating profile photo

How does one remove the list of recent photos from the profile photo library in Message.app? I took an embarrassing photo of myself and it is currently showing in the list of recent photos when I:

Open "Messages.app" > "Change My Picture" > "Recents"

I can't seem to find the source of the file anywhere and I thought I deleted the photo. Unfortunately, it is still showing in the "Recents" list.

Any thoughts or tips will be appreciated!
