According to the note on their website:

"2008 MacBook Pro 15" (MacBookPro 5,1; 5,2; 5,3; 5,4; 5,5 and MacBook 5,1)
While a 6G SSD does function in a 2008 MacBook Pro 15" and 13" Macbook, it will only do so at SATA Revision 1.0 (1.5Gb/s) speeds rather that the SATA Revision 2.0 (3.0Gb/s) speed the machine can deliver. Should owners of these machines desire another SSD option, the Mercury Extreme Pro 3G SSD does run at the full SATA Revision 2.0 (3Gb/s) specification."

I have a 5,5 Macbook Pro but it's actually mid-2009. I'm trying to figure out from the above note if they made a mistake with 2008 and if it really means that with this other SSD it will run at the full SATA Revision 2 (faster than 1.5) on my machine.

Can anybody confirm this? I can't get through to support...

Thanks

I think you posted in the wrong section. This is Mac Pro (i.e. desktop).

Can't speak for the Mercury, but I have an OCZ Agility 3 in my 2009 MBP. Out of the box, it did the same thing - it's a SATA III drive but only showed a SATA I link speed. Had to download an ISO from OCZ, boot to that Linux environment, and change a firmware setting (really easy, btw). My guess is the Mercury has the same/similar Sandforce controller that doesn't cooperate well with the NVIDIA chipset in the MBP. Shame that OWC won't release a simple fix like OCZ does. After the change, mine runs at the proper SATA II speeds.

2008 here. SATA1 observed. I sent mine back as my current HDD could almost get to 150MB/s. Or close enough to be pissed about the link negotiation issue.

Confirm? OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 3G SSD

@ Jvaska.

OWC 2.5" SSD Mercury Electra SSD SATAII will work with revision 2.

OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 3G SSD does not exist.

OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD will only work with SATAI revision 1.

OWC:
This OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD is performance certified for use with all Macs and PCs equipped with SATA Revisions 3.0, 2.0, and 1.0 interfaces (SATA 6Gb/s, 3Gb/s & 1.5Gb/s) except for the following machines:
2008/2009 MacBook/MacBook Pro 13", 15", en 17" modellen.
(Model ID: MacBookPro5,1; 5,2; 5,3; 5,4; 5,5 en MacBook5,1)
While a 6G SSD does function, it will only do so at SATA Revision 1.0 (1.5Gb/s) speeds rather that the SATA Revision 2.0 (3.0Gb/s) speed the machine can deliver. Should owners of these machines desire another SSD option, the Mercury Electra 3G SSD does run at the full SATA Revision 2.0 (3Gb/s) specification.

OWC Dealer/Reseller in The Netherlands and in Europe.
