Ok, so I am dropping the hammer and ordering a 2012 13" Base MBA with 8GB/128GB SSD

What is the amount of space that is left on the 128GB after you boot and configure the MBA on first use. I am trying to judge how much space I will have after I open the unit and register it. I am only planning on loading a small amount of apps that do not take up much space, the only large Application Suite will be MS Office 2011.

I really do not want to waste more money going for the 256 when I can get an after market larger for just a bit more $.

I recall it being close to 100GB. After that you may be able to remove some uninteresting apps and use monolingual to remove language packs you don't intend to ever use.

I wouldn't worry though, as long as you have another place to store the bulk of your video/music/photo library (should you have a large one), 128GB will suffice for A LOT of software.

I have the 11 inch. I've got the entire HD space used at 25GB. That includes all of OS X, The full Office suite, the full iWork package. About 2GB of work files, 5 years of e-mails, and I keep about 2 dozen audio and video podcasts.

The only real tweaks I have done is run Monolingual and deleted Garageband.

I've got a 2011 Mini with the 120GB drive in it right now (waiting for my BTO 2012 to arrive) and I have Office 2011, Adobe CS4 and CS5 suites (includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver), Parallels with a Windows 7 system (Including Office 2010 Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook) and a few other various programs (Chorme, Firefox, VLC kind of things). Both instances of Outlook have my 1GB and .75GB mailboxes cached, so another 3.5GB of email there. With all these things, my system still has 78GB free. I don't have any music on this system, but I could fit my entire 30GB library on here and still have 48GB free.

My 2012 11" MBA had about ~100GB free. This was the default install, which included iLife applications (GarageBand is about 2.5GB once you include the 1.5GB of loops embedded in the System directory).
