I apologize for being sloppy. I was trying to be concise, always a struggle, and ended up muddying the water. Sorry about that.

Are we talking Sodom and Gomorrah here?

Christianity is being considered a hate group by some so this isn't surprising

You are trying to convert people who have specifically chosen to discuss politics with you.

It would be totally OK to convert people to a different religion as part of an open religious discussion event.

So what does your loving god do when he reaches his limits? Send a hurricane to destroy a city? Send a gunman into an elementary school? Send a bomber to a marathon?

Maybe you are getting confused between the religion and the established church with its hypocrisy and its continued pedophile scandals, its appalling treatment of Africans and homosexuals.

Leaving aside that nobody ever converts anybody to their point of view here since rational argument, on those rare occasions when it occurs, doesn't change strongly held beliefs, people post here and read arguments voluntarily and without a hint of coercion.

In an hierarchical structure, such as the Military, subtle coercion occurs when those of unequal rank interact on such issues.

So I don't really think the analogy to MR holds up well.

And if I could hold back your promotion or effect your career in foruming because you don't believe in the same things that I do, then you'd probably have a problem with that.

The point isn't that people hold different beliefs in the military.

The point is that some people use those differences to negatively affect the workplace and people's careers.

Imagine if Muslims tried to make all woman wear headscarves, ban alcohol and fast for a month out of the year. Of Jews tried to ban pork (BACON!!11!). You'd be outraged. How could they step on my rights as an American to eat what I want? You'd rally in the streets to kick them out of the country. Riots would erupt over not being allowed to eat chocolate covered bacon whenever you wanted.

Now think about how Christianity wants to ban gay marriage, teach creationism, put prayer in schools and criminalize abortion. Most people don't bat an eyelash at this because most are Christian, at least in the US. We base our political spew on the words "freedom" and "equality" only when it's convenient for us.

'merica, **** yeah!

That's OK. Sometimes you get a right wing Baptist and they may say something against homosexuality or abortion, and then a Fundamentalist says something against it, and suddenly the media puts them in the same boat. As far as my mom is concerned Mitt Romney, Southern Baptists, Fundamentalists, the Pope, and Evangelicals are all the same "right wing" thing and are all somehow evil.
