I have a mini server running 10.6.8 being used as a shared file server for our office. There are approximately ten users on the network. The hard drives on the server failed last week and we restored the server using a time machine backup, but I had problems restoring directly from the backup, so had to restore after the install. For whatever reason, network settings didn't restore, but all of the files did.

In trying to set the system up as a file server we have had a fair bit of difficulty with permissions. We were using the workgroup manager rather than the server preferences pane. We have it set up now so that network users can read and write to the folders that we want them to. The one notable exception is that Preview claims it doesn't have permission to write to the server. Does anyone have any hints as to why this is? Word can save to the server, other programs can as well, and files edited in preview can be saved locally and then pasted into the server, this is true for all users. Any clues as to why preview is being difficult. All computers have been updated, BTW
