[iPad] iPad 1 jailbreak

My friends first gen iPad is jailbroken I would assume it is with 4.2 unless there was another jailbreak.

I don't know much about jailbreaks but recently she couldn't install an app because it required iOS 5 or later.

What are my options?

Can I upgrade the ipad to iOS5 and jailbreak or will it update directly to iOS6
I don't think she has many JB Tweaks.

What can I do to backup her data?

ios 6 does not support the ipad 1.

If you run update, it will automatically backup and up you to 5.1.1, after which there are many existing methods to jailbreak the ipad. Good luck.

Great thanks is there a guide to jailbreaking the ipad afterwards?

Download Absinthe, plug in the iPad and click jailbreak.
