As in you still have to get an AT&T sim card to even get to the home screen, wanted to buy my mom an iPhone. I know I run the risk of getting one that's very cosmetically defective but I'm just asking.

Yeah you'll have to have an AT&T sim to activate it. After that though, should be painless to get it unlocked (eBay woop woop!)

wtf then what is the point of buying a phone from there, you can just get one of the newer models for $100 and the iPhone 3G from them is 100, there's a program to unlock it right? For free like ultrasn0w or something. Well my mom has AT&T anyway so it doesn't really matter.
