I always snicker when people say "never". I remember asking a girl at Blockbuster Video when they would start carrying DVDs (shortly after they were first released). Her answer was "never - the players are just too expensive, and since we would need to rent out the players as well, we will never carry them." I just laughed and walked out. Of course they started renting DVD's like 6 months later, and within a couple of years, they no longer rented out VHS tapes. For somebody to predict that iPhones will "never" be offered with a 128 GB drive is just as laughable.

Though I agree it is unreasonable, particularly at low boosts, it becomes more reasonable as capacity grows. To go from 16 to 32 (+16gb) is $100, but so is 3 to 64 (+32gb), making +48gb $200. Basically, the larger you buy, the lower your cost per gb is.

Just an interesting note, I guess

I think you agree with me that most users won't need more than 50GB on their PC or Mac, right?
So you say that Macbooks with more than 50GBs are impractical?
Even if most people don't need more than 50GB on their Laptop, most of the modern laptops have 500GB built in Storage. Thats because Technology gets cheaper and the production of older technology (smaller storage) stops. Today, no one produces 50GB HDDs anymore. And that will be the same with Flash Chips for Smartphones. Apple doesn't offer 8GB iPhones anymore because the production of 16GB has like the same price today. And why would they use aged storage if not for the cheaper price? It won't need long til the price difference between 16GB and 32GB dissapears. At that point, 32GB WILL replace the 16GB Version as the smallest storage option on the iPhone. 128GB will be cheaper too so nothing changed but the storage size.

I'm saying at least 3 years. If apple thinks you can get by with 64GB on a COMPUTER ( base MBA ) then I'm sure they think 64gb is easily enough for a phone.

It's gonna be expensive but with the HD apps and 1080p videos people are shooting, I'm sure we'll have a good market. It's always good for Apple to push the envelope and let Android and the rest get left behind.

Yes—with their expandable storage options.

What about the chance of a 96 gb phone?

To make 128 you'd need two x 64gb chips, what if they haven't got to 128 chips yet but are in the middle with a 32+64 chip? Does that make sense? Or does it have to double? I've seen 100gb SSDs.

they have space for 1 memory chip. 64gb chips have relatively recently become available so that's why there is a 64gb iphone. They can fit two memory chips in the iPad hence that now having upto a 128gb capacity. There is not much point putting a 64gb chip and a 32gb chip in for the 96gb, they would just go the whole hog for the 128, like they did with the ipad. The iphone however will have to wait for 128gb chips to become available and i feel that will be some years away.

Actually the only one that did NOT get a capacity boost was the 4.
Someone I know has an 8GB iPhone 4 he got through work. I never remember the iPhone 4 being offered in an 8GB capacity; when I bought it, there was 16 and 32GB as you say.

Where did this mythical 8GB iPhone 4 come from? Special offer for businesses?

When the 4S was released, the 4 was offered as the cheaper option and only included 8GB.

It indeed does seem that Apple's plans depend on the carriers and for a company with a reputation for control that seems odd. I keep thinking that Apple must have a dynamite plan or there is some new technology or something.

I've run out of space on my 64GB. I need a 128. How you you guys managed when you are running out of space?

I hope we get a 128GB upgrade with the 5s. Apple have given more SSD options in the iMacs so maybe they have bought lots of SSD stock

Eventually we'll see it. Maybe not in the upcoming model but soon.
With all the HD and camera enhancements 64gb won't do

Why don't you do a tiny bit of research before you post about something you have absolutely no clue about.
