AppleCare is the regular extended warranty. AppleCare+ is the extended warranty plus accidental damage coverage.

More technically, AppleCare Protection Plan is the regular extended warranty and AppleCare+ is the extended warranty plus accidental damage coverage.

That's why some people are calling the standard one-year warranty "AppleCare," to contrast with AppleCare Protection Plan. You can't argue semantics so let's leave it at that.

Note the only reason I wrote AppleCare Protection Plan = AppleCare+ as far as the express replacement fee is concerned is you can't get the old plan sans the accidental damage coverage anymore for the iPhone. Hope this clarifies.
