So, I am not sure what is happening but all of a sudden my iPad has been using all my data in one day when it is just sitting in my purse. I called Verizon and they told me that I need to turn off cellular even when I am just using wifi because it also uses cellular data while on wifi. I think this is a lie because I cannot even get a celllular signal in my office at work. Anyway, my data shows that I am using it for over 1000 minutes at a time, which is not true. Any ideas about what I should do?

According to my usage thing, I have used 3 GB since March; however, I've gone through my whole data plan and another half of one in 2 days. I'm kind of mad at Verizon. They are not helpful at all.

I got a weird message yesterday saying that I used up all my data and had to buy more (Verizon iPad Mini). I've had it since Saturday and am on wifi most of the time.

It kicked me to the account login area and my data used showed it was only a few megabytes. I tried to access the net again but it gave me the same warning. Once I rebooted it, then the connection was fine and I didn't have to purchase more.

I've only had the Mini for a few days but it did have me a little concerned.

got a verizon ipad mini a week ago.
I've used 5gb. this is not good!
now I have deleted some apps and installed a data monitoring app.
we'll see how it goes.
does anybody else experience more data usage than expected?

for now the plan is to turn off cellular data when I am at home
I'll keep on eye on data used on wifi, too.
but I really dislike having to worry about this.

This was a common problem with the iPhone 5 and Verizon. There are multiple threads over on the iPhone forum. The problem never hit me that bad, but there were a number of posts from users whose entire months worth of data was being used up in a day or two. The general consensus was that there was a bug in iOS 6 that hit iPhones on Verizon. Apple pushed an update to Verizon phones that eliminated the problem ( at least for me). I haven't yet noticed a similar problem with my mini which is also on Verizon.

I was expecting to see 2.5 gb used,to find out that the ipad mini meter shows 5 gb.
I am not new to this. I had iphone from 2007. original ipad with att sim 2gb.
current razr maxx 2gb/month plan.
for ipad mini I thought the 5gb /month plan will suffice.
apparently I was wrong!

Now I know where the data went!
TUNEIN radio used the verizon data instead of the wifi.
This is a stupid design in software that wifi goes out with screen off!

The iPhone has had the same design even in today's model.

Use Airplane mode whenever you don't need to use the Internet on your iPad :)

You are correct!
except I had unlimited internet for iphone, thus never paid attention the usage.

airplane mode is an idea, will not work for me because I need BT active and gps .
I found out that if you do jailbreak there is an app that keeps wifi active.
Why is not a native option in the iphone.
I am not willing to jailbreak the device.
