Using Windows XP for parallels

I have an old copy of windows xp...

Is it feasible to use this for parallels or bootcamp on a new mini?

Are others still using it?

Assuming you have a valid license, then I don't see a problem.

Right now most companies that make windows software want XP or greater. I haven't seen much that won't run on XP.

The biggest problem is that Microsoft is winding down support, so you're less likely to get patches from them.

Some also say that it's more vulnerable to viruses and malware than 7.

Lots of people are still using XP, and there have been 3 versions of windows since (Vista, 7, 8).

If you install XP you can upgrade to W8 for just $39 here.
But you'll have to bring Parallels up to 8 as well for $39 here.

I did this upgrade this weekend and it is pretty slick. Windows will take some getting use to though: totally different than XP.

XP will work by parallels, not exactly very well by bootcamp because apple doesn't give xp drives for newer macs. Windows 8 upgrades are cheap, but no drivers by apple again. Windows 7 has good support, but costs more.

Winner is XP by parallels.

Very cool! I am getting parallels free with my new mac mini from BH Photo!

Do you have to enter any codes before being able to install/use windows 8 upgrade?

Windows 8 upgrade requires a previous version of Windows (at least XP) and will come with a serial code to be used during upgrade.

I run windows xp on a 2011 iMac in parallels just fine. I only use it for one program though. It just runs in coherence mode.
