It could be. What's the model number on your iPhone? It should be listed on te back, on the line of small text right below the word "iPhone." Should start with "A142" followed by a single digit.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the iPhone on Verizon and Sprint use 1X for voice. 3G is strictly a data connection.
