Hi.

I'm using Safari with Mountain Lion. I normally have multiple tabs open. I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that when I flick through my tabs I come to a tab with MacKeeper information page open although I never clicked on anything to open it. I suspect this is a very clever hijack done so its not noticed - but i've noticed. Anyone know how to stop this?

It's a pop-up advertisement. That developer is notorious for such obnoxious ads. Make sure you have "Block Pop-Up Windows" checked in Safari.

Thanks for replying. I already have "Block Pop-Up Windows" checked. But what is happening is that MacKeeper is not appearing in a new Window but in a new tab. That might seem inoffensive but that means in some way MacKeeper has hijacked Safari and I don't want to see the ********** MacKeeper spamware webpage 30 times a day. This MacKeeper company spam should be made illegal.

Any ideas?

Disgusting mackeeper popping up as new tab

How do I stop this really annoying website, mackeeper, from showing up unrequested as a new tab on my macbook air? I'm sure this must be illegal. Is Apple doing anything to prevent this on Safari? Thanks for your assistance.

Not illegal. Safari is running as designed - they don't distinguish from the annoying websites compared to legit ones. Not Apple's fault.

MacKeeper is using Javascript on web sites to popup that new tab. You can either turn off JS in your browser then manually enable it when a site needs it (a hassle), or you can use a Safari extension like Javascript Blocker to block JS except on sites you have allowed.

Check for:

/library/internet plugins/conduit -> remove

/library/launchagents/ -> remove any genieo or vsearch item
/library/launchdaemons/ -> remove any genieo or vsearch item
Repeat for ~/library/

Any safary extension like GoPhoto?

All this is adware. Installed by webs for "free" watching movies or series
