Apps can override Notification approval?

Is is just me or certain apps don't even bother asking for Notification approval?

When an app that can generate a notification (pop-up message, app icon badge or sound) is installed, it SHOULD request approval before continuing itself to do so, but certain apps bypass this approval.

Take Dropbox for instance. I love the app no doubt and the service they offer but I just realized this app has never asked for any approval. :confused:

Perhaps it's a push vs local notification thing? They are different.

Indeed.

I don't think that there's any requirement for an App to ask permission unless it uses Push Notifications.

If it only uses icon badges or local notifications, there isn't a prompt.

Groupon did this and in deleted it. Draining battery, no permissions. All turned off in notification centre. It's their company to spam you be it in email or push...

Might be ok now but haven't tried it. 100% this did happen
