I used to have 4GB ram @ mac book pro and recently upgraded to 16GB. To tell you the truth, the computer didn't become much faster, if at all... But here's why - while limited to 4GB I took good care of how much memory was used, and unloaded everything I didn't need, so that enough memory is available for the current process. Now I can load everything I want, and just switch between applications. While every process under 16GB still runs the time comparable to 4GB config, it saves my time. |

I'm running some stuff in Photoshop right now.
Even at this point, I think 16GB is more enough. I could have done fine with 8GB.

I have 12GB on on of my Macs and rarely ever get close to using all of it. 8GB would have been fine. 16GB? Wow. I'd never use all of that.

16 makes all the difference. Its so cheap right now. To be able to buy it for $100 or less. $97 from OWC for 16gb and lifetime warranty is so cheap. Or other brands for 50 bucks or so. Even if you dont use it, who cares. Maybe you will one day. If the difference between 8 and 18 is 20 bucks its a no brainier over the next few years of your computer. I thought Id only need 8 but there have been several times this last week where I only have 6 gbs free. Glad I got 16.

I tried Mushkin first for 64.99 but it was defective causing crashes. It worked out that the G Skill was on sale right after that.

The G. Skill I got on sale for $44.99 is now $69.99 but it is also CL 10 and $10 less expensive than your Corsair. The G. Skill has worked well in my wife's so far for almost a month. I also used a G. Skill PC3-8500 set in my own MB and it has worked well to 8GB.
