Roughly I remember this is what I did. Sorry I can't remember the actual app/file name (maybe you can google it)
1. First sync iphone to itunes. Go to itunes folder in PC and copy file that contains the sms to your android phone.
2. Install a free Android app which converts itunes file to xml.
3. Install another free Android sms import app to import the xml file.

This website helped me to transfer my many messages over to my Galaxy.
Worked flawlessly and was pretty quick.
