I'm looking to get a 512MB stick of RAM for a friend's iBook as a present. She has the 1.0GHz 12" model. I was browsing Crucial's site because I bought a 512MB stick for my 12" 1.0 GHz PowerBook there about a year ago and its performed flawlessly. However, I noticed something that surprised me. Crucial prices the RAM for the iBook significantly higher than that of the PowerBook. A 512 for my PowerBook was (and is) $100, but it's $137 for the iBook. Both use DDR PC2100 CL=2.5 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC DDR266 2.5V (pulled directly from the site). Specification-wise, they look identical, but have different part numbers.
Does anyone know what the deal is? Or perhaps where to find a 512MB stick the will definately work in an iBook for about $100?
