Russian Red - "I Love Your Glasses" (2008)

Russian Red is the name which under Madrid born singer Lourdes Hernández acts. Yep, her stage name comes from the "russian red" lipstick that Lourdes once saw and fell in love with with, now she wears it everytime on stage.
She sings in english because she said that all the music she heard all her life was in english, and it's more like an instinct.

She became famous through MySpace in 2007, but in 2008 the spotlight went on her with her first album "I Love Your Glasses", that transcended from her indie backround to almost mainstream in Spain. Some people says that she's the Spanish Feist (Feist is my favorite singer, that's how I knew Russian Red) and even the cover of "I Love Your Glasses" is some kind of tribute to Feist's Reminder cover. Russian Red's music style is defined as Pop-Folk, her sweet songs confirm it.

Cigarettes is the first song on the album and the one that put her on the spotlight (And all the cigarettes that I have never smoked (...) getting older is not been on my plans).
But my favorite song so far is "They Don't Believe". It's more upbeat and happier with drum beats.

So what do you think? She's pretty and sings nice. Altough nowadays it's hard to find "I Love Your Glasses" in Northamerica, you can buy it on iTunes.

I don't know what to say, honestly. It is unique but I'm not sure if I like it or if the sound was so unique that I couldn't not listen.
