What should the new iPhone 2011 have??

Here is my wishlist:

1) Must Have: HSPA+ (Evolved 3G+), Nice to have: LTE (3.9G or 4G)

2) AWS Version of iPhone: In Canada, providers who use the AWS give you great data and voice prices while the rest charge you outrageously!

3) 8MP Camera with 1080p Video FHD Video Recording @ at least 24fps :)

4) Triple Microphones (Stereo Mics + One Noise Cancellation)

5) Stereo Speakers! They still don't have that...

6) EVEN thinner! :)

7) Cheaper price for unlocked (Around $550 CAD)

8) At LEAST 1.2GHz Dual Core ARM Cortex A9 Based Apple A5 Chip with 1GB RAM

9) Better GPU

10) Voice Time! So you can call over HSPA+ or 4G!

11) Dual LED Flash

12) At least a 3.7" Screen

13) A Better Retina Display (Ex. a Retina Super AMOLED (RSAMOLED) Screen :))

14) iOS 5 (Widgets?)

15) A new antenna design

So what do you want in the new iPhone 5?

1. OK
2. Good luck with that.
3. 8MP, buy a Camera
4. Because Stereo recording is SOOO necessary in a phone, right!
5. Headphones are the key to stereo with a hand held device.
6. Yeah, with your requirements 3, 4, & 5 this will be happening.
7. Perhaps they will give them away, how much can R&D really cost?
8. Faster processor, more RAM is always cool.
9. Always a plus.
10. I'm hoping for "Time-Travel" myself.
11. See response #3.
12. Screen size is fine, but 3.7" is not terrible, 4" & over = iPad territory.
13. Have you seen the current display, have you ?
14. iOS updates will come, I have no use for widgets on my phone.
15. I'm going out on a limb & saying this will happen, LOL.
 
What an original thread, how come no one else has ever thought about creating a next generation wish list?

So you want all the, but thinner and cheaper, get ready to be disappointed.
 
All you did was list every technology that will be available by 2012.

I don't want the majority of those things. I want:

-20% better battery life (iPad)
-5.0MP camera with a great sensor
-64GB capacity
-A redesign closer to 3GS
-At least 512MB RAM
-Processor is fine now
 
I would love a 4" screen and an led notification light. I wouldn't mind it being a little thicker if it means larger battery.

512GB of RAM? That would cost almost $20,000! :eek:

I agree with OP's idea of widgets, and I would love an LED notification light. Perhaps the light would be placed inside the home screen? (I'm dreaming, I know)
 
I only want a better notification system (I HATE POPUPS), optical home button and carrier free iPhone sold exclusively by Apple not by any carrier (like the Nexus One).
 
OP, seeing how your latest handheld Apple tech listed in your sig is a 16gb iPod Touch from a couple years back, why don't you start with 2009's iPhone 3GS?

It will rock your ******* world, man!

Theres no way they put a 1.3 dual core a9 in it and keep battery life. I expect the same overall design, 8 mp camera w/ hd recording 30 fps, 600 mhz a9 dual core or 1 ghz a4, 20-30% more battery life, LTE, and Verizon compatible. I think these are realistic expectations, even the Verizon one this time, b/c of the way ATT is positioning its Android phones. They have de emphasized the iPhone to some degree and I think its indicative of losing their exclusivity soon.


1 gb of ram is reasonable, but I get the feeling they may stay with 512mb next year. Screen size is not changing....3.5 retina is here for the next 4-5 years. Jobs said they thought it will set the standard in the industry for the next 4-5 years.

Just to be pedantic, the OP said at least 1.2 (GHz). You're right though. I suspect that if we were talking about an 800MHz dual core A9 then by the time Apple have done some power optimisations, and with 2011 fabrication processes, it would be about the same power as the current 800MHz (or so the rumour goes) A4. 1.2 (or 1.3) GHz would almost certainly hit battery life compared to the iPhone 4.

Having said that, A9 is about 25% better performance clock for clock so at 800MHz that would be about a 2.5x performance increase vs the iPhone 4 and 3.75x performance if the OP ever got his wish. Frankly I would be extremely annoyed with Apple if they give any more than a 50% performance hike and I'd prefer more like a 25% performance boost, anything more has thrown away battery life in a misguided quest for the performance crown.

I don't need much more performance than the current iPhone and I'd rather they downclocked these more powerful and efficient processors as much as possible in order to get better battery life. An 800MHz single core A9 would be just fine for me.

I agree. It needs to be so small that I hardly know that it's in my pocket, but big enough to have a useable screen. Apple have judged this balance perfectly and it got even better when the made the whole thing thinner with the iPhone 4.

I'm nervous about any antenna redesign because I really hope that they find a way to optimise the existing iPhone 4 "antenna on the outside" concept and don't feel the need to revert back to an internal antenna that would presumably bump up the thickness again.
