I'm so confused, my computer doesn't take 6 minutes to boot.

neither does mine, but you did manage to beat me posting the comment. I couldn't imagine having restricted access to a computer, what else are you supposed to do? talk to people? go out? do physical work?

If this happened to me I'd have to learn how to edit without a computer, else I'd suffer from withdraw.

Always amazed by these sorts of stories.

You would think that any "computer wizz kid" talanted enough to cause that amount of damage would be snapped up by someone.

Doubtful, it just shows that you have the know-how to commit a criminal computer action, and lack the morals to prevent you to it. Who's to say he won't hack the file-server at work, and store his movies there?

how wrong is this quote?! my Macintosh takes only 3 minutes to boot!

however my Apple takes 6

it dose not take a genius to stage a DOS attack, belive me.

they were WAY too harsh, he was a kid, nasa should be thankful that there security holes have been highlighted, if i were them i would set it as a sort of competition anyone how hacks or computers gets to replace our head of IT security so every time the there security is beaten they get a better system.

I agree with the sentence.

He is unfortunate to be one of the first to be given a punishment so severe.

I feel sorry for the kid, but society (aka the courts) must show a degree of disapproval. If that means severe punishment, so be it. And perhaps NASA has learnt something in the meantime.
