Best place to purchase replacement battery for MacBook Pro

A friend of mine just got a nice deal on a MBP 15", but the only issue is that the battery needs to be replaced. Where is the most reputable place to purchase a replacement battery for a Mac notebook? Obviously, cost is a consideration too. He'd rather not pay $129 directly from Apple for their branded battery if he doesn't have to. And is there a compatible brand that is consistently better than the others?

The MBP model he got is MA610LL, but it's been upgraded to 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The best place to buy an Apple battery is directly from Apple. It is unwise to buy a critical part like the battery from a third party.

So, OWC would not be an option in this case?

I trust OWC for RAM and hard drives. I wouldn't recommend any company but Apple for the battery or power supply. Too much possibility for something to go wrong and void the warranty. That's not to say something would go wrong with a 3rd party battery, but I wouldn't take the risk, myself.

This machine is already out of warranty. It's a 4-year old MBP.

I still wouldn't trust any battery but Apple's.

or just search Google shopping for "MA610LL battery".

I'd go to Apple but to each their own; if the reward (saving a few bucks) is worth the risk (blowing up that laptop) then go for it.
