I tried it and it went the the facetime screen but didn't connect because the email address was fake because I don't know anyone with 4.1

I tried it with a valid email that has facetime available and it failed

Hey, I just tried that and it worked

im interested in this too i tried to facetime a friend on itouch 4.1 but when i try to do gmail.com it shows up as gmailcom

It really worked?!?

That is really the only feature I feel I am missing out on with 4.1, as I want to pick up a new ipod touch for my parents soon.

I suppose even if you could FaceTime call an email, someone with a touch couldn't initiate a FaceTime call with you, could they?

I restored 3-4 times now because facetime keeps going down and I dont know what or why this is happening.
I gave up, Im stuck with no facetime and waiting for the 4.1 JB to update to and give it a shot.

If you actually think about it the question to begin with and assumptions that this would work is whats Hilarious.
You will obviously need both devices sending and receiving the facetime request over email to be on 4.1
