It's quite alot, nothing like the 2,944,320Gb (that's 427,595,279 files!) currently being shared globally on KaZaA, but of course, that no good for Mac

i see pedabytes on some file sharig networks. GB is tiny actually. most hotline/carracho/kdx servers have far more than 4.6GB. many have terabytes and thats just one guys computer. not sure why yo think 4 gigabytes is large. you realize that apple sells 20GB ipods right? when i go on one of these things im typically sharing 30-40GB.

Do you see where it says on the far right side how many FILES that each host has? Not megabytes of files, because there is no such thing as 1.8k megabytes of files, it would say 1.8GB. That is over 4,000,000 FILES right there. Think, if each of those files is 2mb, thats 8 Terrabytes of stuff....

still not very impressive. i see individuals with terrabytes all the time. for over 300 people to be sharing a few terabytes is nothing impressive. like i said most filesharing apps ive seen tend to list pedabytes of files. i just dont get why people are making a big deal about this. maybe 10 years ago terrabytes would have been impressive but not today.

Wel...

Can you give a a good app for mac that gets me pedabytes of information?? Limewire gets me about 40GB, and neo gets me about 400-500GB of info.

I mean free p2p, not carracho or anything.

limewire usually gives me between 4 and 20 pedabytes.

drumbeats 4-20 pedabytes.

neo is just a matter of searching nough ip addresses, but i havent gotten more than terrabytes in neo. the network has pedabytes but with the limitations of a shadow client it makes it difficult to actually access all that data.

any open nap app will give you pedabytes easily.

edonkey would i would guess but i dont think it lists that info so who knows.

in my experience edonkey and open nap networks tend to have the most files and give the best sucess.

How long do you leave LimeWire on for than?

Do you have it set on a certain port?

no special settings really. usually give it 20 minutes to an hour to get connected. set the number of servers to max.

Can you help me with a few things in limewire? First, I cant find the spot to set servers to "max."

Second, what are the "Quick Connect" conections you have listen in your preferences. Any other things you do would be appreciated!

you know ive seen both peda and peta used. check this definition:

Quote:
Byte 8 bits
Kilobyte 1,000 bytes
Megabyte 1,000,000 bytes
Gigabyte 1,000,000,000 bytes
Terabyte 1,000,000,000,000 bytes
8 bits Pedabyte 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes
Extrabyte 1,000 pedatytes
Zettabyte 1,000 extrabytes
Yottabyte A whole lot of data!
and below bytes we have nibbles and bits (sounds like a dog food)

well you cant set it to max but you can manually type in the number of servers you want to connect to. its in your connection tab. i havent used limewire in awhile (dont have it installed now) so i cant tell you a list of servers. but what i used to do is set my connection type to whatever the fastest was (so it would let me connect to more servers) and then go to my connection tab and just type in between 6 and 12 servers as the number to connect to. i also made sure i was always sharing more than 20 files and less than 1000 (some servers will ban you if you have less than 20 or more than 1000, open nap is the same)

lately ive been using xnap to connect to open nap servers. ive had better luck with it so i stopped using limewire. it connects to many more servers than limewire will allow.

Can I have a link?

Can you download movies, files, etc. or just music?

Is it OS X too?

http://xnap.sourceforge.net/

its java so its cross platform (kinda like limewire). works in osx.

ugly but functional (kinda like kdx)

any file types (apps, movies, music, anything)

if you want music searching for albumwrap always helps (whole album one file use albumwrap extractor to get the individual tracks out of the album wrap file)

and very ugly... but it works (most of it)

I have seen peda used as well, but the correct prefix is peta. And wherever you got those definitions from, scrap 'em. That person doesn't know how to spell or count correctly. These are the official correct spellings and orders:

Kilobyte (1^3 bytes)
Megabyte (1^6 bytes)
Gigabyte (1^9 bytes)
Terabyte (1^12 bytes)
Petabyte (1^15 bytes)
Exabyte (1^18 bytes)
Yottabyte (1^21 bytes)
Zetabyte (1^24 bytes)

1 zetabyte is equal to 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes. That's one septillion bytes!

well on your left you will basically only need the search section. i dont know what most of the rest does. the servers or connections section is sometimes useful to try connecting to more servers. but basically just start searching in the search section.

in the top rightish area there should be a menu that included preferences or settigs. in there you can set stuff like where to download and what to share. one bug is that you have to type in the file path manually /Volumes/your drive/downloads rather than selecting the folder by some sort of window.
