Have you selected the headphone jack as audio output from System Preferences > Sound? Also, make sure all cables are connected correctly (IIRC you have to push it quite hard)

To disable autosleep, go to System Preferences > Energy Saver

I guess the TV will not accept sound via analog input while you connected the HDMI cable, as the TV expects audio via HDMI too.
If you have one of the 2010 MacBooks, get a HDMI adapter capable of transferring sound.

If you don't have one of the 2010 MBs, look into the TV's manual and see, if there are ways to get video and sound on the same channel via other inputs.

Got an amp and a set of speakers? Bypass the TV and go through that with the audio if the TV will not work.
