3GS 3.1.2: Do I need to unjailbreak before going to 4.1?

I want to go to 4.1 and jailbreak using Limera1n as more and more apps are OS4 specific.

What do I need to do to prepare for update to 4.1 and then JB?

Can I just update the phone as is through itunes? or do I need to restore?

Do you need to unlock? If no, just update through Itunes, and then, JB with Limera1n. If yes, you will need to wait for pwnagetool or new unlock comes out.
