hi,
does quark 8 have to be manual? Or is there a faster way to change footnoting numbers when the client adds a footnote to number 3 and there's 400 footnote numbers to change?
(Is there a way to make the numbers flow down the footnotes automatically?)

I don't believe that there is native footnote support in Quark, but you might be able to find an extenstion that provides that functionality.

InDesign does have limited footnote support in CS3 and above. If your layout is basic and text heavy (like a manual or novel) it works ok. You will run into problems if you use tables or have many columns of text. Hopefully ID CS6 increases footnote support.
