Apple Refurb price drops on prev. generation

They dropped the prices to $849 for the 1.8GHz and $1099 for the 2.13Ghz.

Im tempted to buy the $849.00 version and hold off till later on purchasing the new release once they figure out any bugs that may come up.

Anyone else?

Looks like a good deal

I personally would try to get an Ebay deal.

Some of the Airs are going for $700 (rev b&C)

It almost looks like panic selling.

These new 13" are very nice but don't seem to be all that much different than what we had. If you can save $600, that may be a very wise move.

ebay deals are great but some are almost out of warranty. At least with the refurb, you still get the full 1 year warranty and you know its in pristine unscratched condition.

Man I am going to take a look at ebay again today!! I was on there last night and none fo the prices were dropped yet for the other MBAs!! I will take a look again later altho Im loving the new 11.6 so might go with that!! As soon as I get my car back LOL Love warranty work!!

Might go for the 2.13GHz. I want a backlit keyboard. Nothing on the new generation that I really need except maybe the speaker upgrade.

Is the SSD the same as flash? I thought it was, but for the new ones, they're actually calling it flash and not SSD.

I want a MBA, going to get to my Apple Store today to see if they have the old ones in stock. To make sure I'd rather have the older one than a newer one.

I would recommend against the $849 model b/c it has the SATA hard drive; instead I would go for the $1099 b/c it has the SSD drive, which is much, much faster.

I wouldn't, for that price difference you can get a much better third party ssd to use. Of course if you are up to it.

The previous MBAs used 1.8" HDD spaces so that may limit which SSD you can put in there.

I purchased the $849 model and bought an Intel 160GB SSD to compliment it nicely.

Can't wait to get it now.

I'm sorry to tell you but the Intel X25 will not fit in the old or new Macbook Air. There are aftermarket drives that will, but the X25 is 2.5" and the older Air needs a special kind of 1.8" drive. Not every 1.8" drive has the right connector. Sorry for the bad news and best of luck.

The question is, which refurb. SSD model will you get? If you get one of the early/mid Rev C models with the SM128 SSDs, the SSD is much slower than the current MBA SSD or the late Rev C TS128B SSD (which I suspect is the same "flash" drive as in the new ones). The later TS128B SSD is as fast as the current MBA "flash" SSD drives. In fact, if you peruse the xbench posting site, you will see the late Rev C out scores the current crop of MBAs in every category but the disk test, and even there the new MBA only scores higher by 10%. So, if you can get apple to sell you a refurb. late Rev C with the TS128B SSD, it's definitely a steal at $1099!

So how long before the new MBA's start showing up on the refurbished list? I'm seriously considering one, but it's going to be a few months to get the funds saved up. It would be great to see refurbs start showing up after the new year.

Now as a owner of the new 11.6 i would not buy a old MBA at any price.
