Flash iPod at MacWorld Expo?
ThinkSecret reports confirmation that Apple will introduce a flash-based iPod at Macworld Expo next week.
The new iPod will reportedly come in 1GB and 2GB versions according to the rumor site based on Samsung 1GB flash modules and will start at $149. ThinkSecret reports that the Flash iPods are being built by Asustek as previously rumored. Flash iPod rumors and speculation have been circulating since the introduction of the original iPod. |

Is this the same flash iPod that is not going to have a screen?
EDIT: Guess not... "Sources say the flash-based iPod will be powered by a chipset from SigmaTel and that it will feature a screen that is the same width as the iPod mini's but two lines shorter." Think Secret has some damn good sources at Apple. I'm surprised an employee with so much knowledge about future products is willing to risk everything for a rumor site. It must be someone really high up. Last edited by jamdr : Jan 6, 2005 at 12:50 AM. |

I see Apple really put a scare into Thinksecret.

Wow, pretty gutsy of them considering Apple is suing them for everything else. Well, they're already in trouble... why not go for broke.

You'd think they'd be a little reluctant at this point

Hmm. ThinkSecret on the verge of being sued, and they post this.
If I didn't know better, I'd say this was just some sort of convoluted marketing scheme by Apple

What will they call this? The iPod Micro?
We'll have a lineup like this: iPod Micro, iPod Mini, iPod. Kinda weird... Or maybe just iPod Flash? Or FlashPod? |

2GB sounds great. And it sounds like this will be smaller than the Mini, something I would have been skeptical of.
Also, TS is pretty brave Maybe they know THIS info came to them in a less questionable way than other stuff?EDIT: I will add my vote for "iPod Flash." Micro vs. Mini is a little confusing to a uninformed shopper, and Flash would help distinguish the differing advantages (shock protection vs. more-adequate capacity) of flash vs. HD players. Jobs has pointed out the problems of using a really-low-capacity player before, and he's right. 1 GB is on that borderline--but I can see that it's a market worth going for. Just don't let any low-capacity frustration (1Gb = 250 songs) tarnish the "real" iPod's image. The name Flash would help with that. Last edited by nagromme : Jan 6, 2005 at 12:59 AM. Apple's iPod line is getting a little too diverse. Consumers will start to get confused:
iPod flash 1GB iPod flash 2GB iPod mini 4GB iPod 20GB iPod 40GB iPod photo 40GB iPod photo 60GB --- I think they should get rid of the iPod and reduce the price of the iPod photo; it will continue to be the high end model. The iPod mini should get a bigger hard drive and become the mid-level model. The iPod flash can be the low-end model. |

$150 for 1G iPod flash? I'd buy that in a heartbeat!! I'm excited to hear what are the guts inside this baby.

No the lineup is perfect. iPod-fits all lineup I'd say... think about it. The cheapo person can buy one for $150, the high tech blow-all-his-money-away can buy one for $600.

A) The 8-10 gig hard drives aren't out yet. B) They won't be out till second half of 2005. C) They usually take a bit before they come out in new products. So 8 to 10 GB won't be for months. |

I guess thinksecret wants to go out in a blaze of glory. Not even lawsuits stop them.

Even better why pay $150 for 1 gig when for another $100 i could get 4 Gigs.. (as of now) For 1 gig i can get about 250 songs at $150 where as the mini i could get about 1,000 for 100 bucks more... gig for gig... the mini seems logical...(as of now) I think the pricing is to high/wrong maybe for $100 dollars for the 1 Gb and 150 for the 2gb.(but then again apple products are expensive) I think the product will sell, some/most don't need to have more then 1/2 gig (250 songs) to be happy. Plus they can say "I have an ipod" and use ITMS

"Hey, I've just got an iPod Go!" And they think you said, "Hey, I've just got an iPod, go!" Then they think you want to get rid of them!
