My POLL: What hardware upgrades have you made to you Mac?

What hardware upgrades have you made to your Mac? A processor upgrade, hard drive, RAM, anything physical that you did (or had done).

If you overclocked your Mac, then that's fine, so long as it was done via hardware (changing jumpers) as opposed to using a software based overclocker.
Windows/Linux doesn't count. Everyone knows that you can slap together one of those from spare parts you find laying around. They are one giant hardware upgrade... downgrade... so please, Macs only.

I've upgraded the RAM on both my Macs, and my dad's Quicksilver sports an extra hard drive and RAM.

In my 2002 QS Dual 1Ghz I have ..

- Replace 80mm PSU fan
- Replaced 120mm Case fan
- Replaced 60mm CPU fan
- Added 60mm CPU fan [ now 2 CPU fans in stead of one ]
- Upgraded fromn Pioneer DVR-104 to NEC 2500
- Upgraded RAM from 512MB to 1.25GB
- Added 160GB Maxtor Drive [ with special cable so the two drives sit next to each other in stead of on top of each other .. to prevent overheating ]

i have a B&W When I got it it was a stock system 400mhz G3 128 RAM ATI Rage 128 with 16 MB VRAM DVD Rom drive and a SCSI Card with a 8.5 gig HD. Since then I have Upgraded it to a 500 mhz G4 which I Overclocked with the jumpers to 600mhz I put in a CPU cooling fan that I got from comp USA that was meant for AMD cpu but it fit fine into my B&W and with it I Can stably run at 600 mhz, I'm also thinking about another overclock to maybe 700 mhz. Ive put in a Sonnet Tempo HD to replace my SCSI Controller and I have a Maxtor 40 gig HD a seagate 80 gig HD and a Hitachi 160 gig HD attached to it. I also have upgraded the video card twice first to a ATI Radeon 7000 then to an ATI Radeon 9200 I also put in an ,ATI XClaim VR that i got from my brothers B&W when I gave him my Old Rage when I got my 7000,for watching/recording TV when i'm in OS 9. I also upgraded the Optical Drive to a Pioneer Super Drive. I think that pretty much it.

On my eMac, I increased the ram to 768 MB (was originally 256), I replaced the stock Maxtor 40 GB hard drive with a 250 GB, 7200 rpm Western Digital, and I've increased the clock speed of the processor from 700 to 900 MHz (all it took was snapping off a couple of resistors).

Now I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade the optical drive, since I don't burn that much stuff, or if going up to 1 GB of memory would help ease the slowness...hehe

upped my G5's RAM from 512 to 1.5 GB and the video card from the nvidea 5200 to a Radeon 9600.

• Added an extra 120gb WD HD
• Installed Verax silencing kit (M10 & M11) which included fans, new heatsinks etc.

Currently: About to install ADSL (1mb/s)

Next planned upgrades timed with the purchase of Tiger:
• 2 x 250gb drives to replace existing drives, maybe SATA
• USB2 PCI card or SATA card (see above)

RAM upgrade is essential, I've upgraded RAM on all macs I've ever had (15+), also HD is important.

Powerbook G4 1.33MHz, added 512MB RAM extra.
iMac G5 1.8GHz, it's a BTO so i don't know if it counts, 512MB RAMx2, 250GB HD bt, ape.
Powermac G4 400. Have added RAM three times, it has 640MB RAM now. Added a second 80GB HD and a third 120GB (10+80+120GB). Replaced the original Rage 128 card with a GeForce 4MX to get Quartz acceleration

Umax s900 (i have sold it three years ago..) Replaced the 233MHz CPu with a 300MHz G3. OC'ed bus from 50MHz to 60MHz and CPU to 360MHz. Added a UW scsi card and a 9.2GB 7200 RPM HD and later a 36.7GB 10.000RPM HD
Replaced original 12x CD with a 12x8x32x Scsi CD burner.
Upgraded RAM from 136 MB to 272 MB. Also replaced the iXmicro video card with a Rage 128 Pro 16 MB. Added A USB 1.1 card and a firewire card.
This was a killer machine 5 years ago!!!

my old G3 B&W-> 768MB ram, 2x20GB harddisk (one in the zip-bay), 48x cd-rw drive internal, ProKeyboard and Logitech optical mouse.
my old TiPowerbook-> 1GB ram 20GB disk instead of standard 10GB, USB2, BlueTooth, Airport (+external 52x CD-RW drive wich doesn't count )

both are no longer mine... sold the B&W and someone ran off with the Pb

G5-> 1,5GB ram, Airport, logitech optical mouse (sorry steve I need more buttons & scrollwheel ) (+external 80GB D2 around here since my B&W... but doesn't count) future upgrades: more ram and more diskspace...

Started off with a 2003 MDD G4. Upgraded the memory to 1.25 GB (added 2 512s). Added a DVD writer (Pioneer 106). Replaced the 80 GB HD with a 160. Depending on what happens at Macworld, I may soon be buying a Radeon 9800 for it.

I added 512 MB RAM to my iBook G4, replacing the original 128 MB chip, to a total of 640 MB RAM (and had it delivered with a 60 GB HD from Apple).

On my old Pismo, which my girlfriend is using as the screen on hers died, I Added and re-added both RAM, from the original 64 MB to 320 and later to 512 MB, and HD, from 6 GB to 20 to 40 GB.

And her old Pismo, always hooked up to an external screen, has gone from 64 to 320 and down to 128 MB RAM and from 6 to 20 and back to 6 GB HD. It currently runs OS 9, and does this very well.

The "loose" disks has been put in external USB- and Firewire-casings and are still in use.

In olden days, I added RAM, VRAM, HD and a new G3 processor module on my 7500, to expand its lifetime with a year or two. Still works, but I haven't actually used it for a couple of years.
