i was going naked.
thank god it's the back.

Yikes 😱 But like you said, it was only the back (easily replaced)

Happened to me the other day but lucky enough it fell off my pocket and slipped between the door and under the drivers seat and not on the concrete🙂
 
I've done that with my old 3G before.

The bumper on my iPhone 4 has saved it several times...

As my office at work has 5 axles and weighs 80K (lbs), I learned early on that bad things can happen when you get out with a phone (or expensive C.B. Radio) in your hands.

There's nothing quite like watching your hard earned money take a skip across the gravel.

My advice: Be sure to have your gadgets securely squared away BEFORE exit. 🙂

And if you can stand it, use a case. (Incipio NGP or OtterBox for me)
 
ive gotten out of the car and dropped my blackberry countless times without a problem. looks like ill have to be extra careful as one drop can be the end.
 
This is how I broke my 3G screen. I go naked with ip4 except at work where I use a rubber case. Lucky yours is the back!
 
So the apple store didn't have the back glass in stock🙁
So I have to live with the cracks until Thursday when I can make it back to the mall.
 
So is Apple just going to replace the back glass for you while you wait in the store? How much are they going to charge you?
 
Has happened to me twice now where I was juggling things getting out of the car and dropped my 4. Fortunately just a few tiny chips to the band around the sleep button. After the second time I used a case for a few days but naked is just so good.

yea, until you smash the front screen! lol.

not many people know about this as apple dont advertise it. I contacted my local apple store and the guy on the phone wasnt sure so asked his manager and they do it for £25 over here in the UK.

If you think a bumper is saving you from this situation you are sadly mistaken.

I did the exact same thing. Well, I took the phone out of my pocket as I got in the car. And because the stupid bumper was grabbing at the inside of my pocket, it slipped out of my hand and hit the garage floor. Shattered the back. This was within a week of delivery of my iPHone 4, way before this new 29 dollar replacement policy. I luckily talked the guys at the apple store into exchanging my phone for free.

Eghhh, that ruins it.
 
you are lucky is just the back, it's easily replaceable and cheap, I'm told is around $29 to replace it @ genius bar...
