A. Macbook pro 15" high res glossy, 8gb ram, and 256gb ssd, 2.4ghz i5
B. Macbook pro 15" High res AG, 4GB ram, 500GB HDD, i7 2.8
C. Macbook air 13" 4GB/2.13ghz/256gb ssd

thanks guys i'm very confused on which to pick so looking for your opinions.

I would go with b. everything else can be upgraded after the fact but the processor. Even though people says its not worth it, you cant change that once you buy.

Also AG is good!

Well i've had the MBA for about a week now. While i love the machine. I'm scared that A. it's not going to hold any resale value. B. i feel like the macbook pro is an investment where as the air is just a toy.

I use my computer for class,emails,videos,photo and video editing (light)
 
It will hold its value. Just look at used Mac prices; anything newer than the first iBook still retains some value.

For your needs, you should go for the base model 13" MBP and upgrade to a 3rd party SSD. OWC, OCZ, and Intel are great options for Macs.

Would pick A over B, definately.

C over either if weight matters while you're on the go (I wouldn't pick the Air for video editing, but for everything else, even Photoshopping, it should be fine)
 
I'm in a similar situation as yours, I'm also a student.

I walk around with a 15" i5 atm, and tbh, it's very cumbersome. Some days I leave it at home mainly cuz of size and weight. And I hardly use half the processing power, and never use the superdrive.... so it seems pretty pointless to carry all that around all the time.

If I had the air, I'd most likely carry it with me everyday. (thinking about switching to an air)

So from someone in a similar situation to yours, I'd say stick wit the air.
 
lol is everyone hear a feather weight? I have no problem carrying even the 17 inch power book around all day.. there is pluses and minuses to each. If your going to game at all go 15 inch though.

Forget the AIR

like others said get the 13" MBP. It will do everything you are looking for. Later on if you wish you can put an SSD in it. It will retain good value.

The 15"s are too powerful for what you want to do.
 
First decide on what size screen you want.

Then you don't need 8gb of ram for what you do. 4 is fine. A SSD would be better money spent. The jump from 120/128 to 256 is expensive, so unless you need the room, get a 128gb.

If you want a 15", get the base 15, with 4GB of ram. Add a intel 160GB or other 120 GB SSD on your own.

If you want a 13", get the base 13, then add a SSD on your own.

Your needs will be met with any of the machines. None of them are going to make the internet, word faster. A SSD will make everything speedy.

1. air is slower other than having a SSD(which you can also get in a 13")
2. more Ports ie.FW800
3. how customizable is the air? it's almost like having the iphone.



B. is good for the i7 and storage and RAM is always upgradeable
A. is BEAST and will probably be just as fast as B.
 
well got a brand new sealed macbook pro 15" HR-AG with the 2.66ghz i7 off a local classified add for 1900 so i jumped on it


now to find the SSD... and i think instead of 8GB of ram upgrade i'll just do 6, feel that 6 will be good
 
6 Is plenty for your uses 🙂 I ran into the wall with 4 gb but 6 never have a slow down. Awesome! Have fun with it!
