AirPrint has not been pulled. Don't believe everything you read.

Good Morning, Mr. Jobs:

As a release-day purchaser of an iPad, I was elated when you revealed iOS 4.2 would support AirPrint. Now comes reports AirPrint support has been pulled from 4.2. Between announcements/assurances of the white iPhone, and now the pulling of AirPrint, is Apple going to lose credibility and become known for announcing “vaporware”?

Respectfully,

Not sure what time zone you are in, but even accounting for US Eastern time, it seems Mr. Jobs replied prior to the email being sent.

I could be wrong, but at first glance something is off.
I WISH it was true, I am sad Air Print was pulled and I hope it dies return soon.

How's 11.47 AM prior to 5.07 AM? Am I missing something?

If AirPrint's been pulled there will be a major delay to 4.2 release. The GM has AirPrint buttons all over. (Not that they work as they should yet...)

The question is what time zone are you in? The email times are correct. 5am comes before 11am on the same day.

Well, even the rumors point out that Air Print has NOT been pulled.

The rumors say that Air Print now only prints to printers that internally support the Air Print protocol -- namely, a handful of new HP printers.

So, "Steve" is correct. And worries about Air Print Buttons are unfounded.

Perhaps your e-mail to Steve should have been more specific.

Again, time zones make a difference.

The first hint of the rumors came out early today Eastern time.

The OP sent his inquiry at 11 AM and Steve replied at 5 AM. We can assume Steve is in Cupertino and it is 3 hours behind Eastern time.

SO, rumors goes up on MacRumors at 10:00 AM ST, Steve replies 5 AM PST. Makes sense, except the OP sent email at 11:07 in SOME time zone. If that was Eastern time, then it was 8:07 in CA. So, if the OP was in Europe it might have been possible.

LAll I wanted t convey is that there is some authenticity verification required to take this email as gospel truth. Steve is also known for his literal word play as was pointed out by others, Air Play DOES exist in some form.

Either way, we shall know soon and it does suck if they pulled Air Play to shared devices.

It seems that the OP sent out the email at 5AM and then "Steve" replied at 11AM.

So either I am reading it wrongly or you are reading it wrongly.

Um, unless it's me that's reading it badly wrong, you've got those times backwards.

If the rumors are true, then hopefully we will all find out later today when Apple releases Mac OS X 10.6.5

Exactly - there have been no rumors about AirPrint being pulled at all: There are reports that support for printing to printers attached to OS X and Windows has been pulled from 10.6.5 (and, presumably, iTunes for windows although there have been no betas of iTunes released for Windows since the one that supports it. However, that beta itself has been pulled)

wow, 9to5mac.com was quick to pick up the story and even quoting the OP.

Again, no one has ever said that Air Print would be pulled. So your question to Steve was bogus.

The rumors said that one aspect (printing via iTunes on your PC printer) may have been pulled. That's not the same as Air Print. It's just one piece of it.

Air Print is alive and well, even if that piece of it is pulled.

Air Print may very well have its functionality reduced to just a handful of HP printers -- but it will still be in iOS 4.2.

You'll just need a printer that supports Air Print on your network to be able to use Air Print.

Edit: Phil A. posted as I typed this, so I probably didn't need to repeat myself. I felt my point was getting lost in the "timezone" fury.

Don, don't tell me you're not aware that's quite a 'just' there, given the number of single-manufacturer models that support it.

Where's seamuskrat gone? He, or indeed, she, needs to come in here and take the shame. It's the adult thing to do.

Think everything 17... is an Apple address. Unless that changed with the advent of CIDR.

LOL

Yeah, I know. But that 'just' is what let's Steve say, "Air Print has not been pulled"

I have no plans to rush out and buy a new HP Printer, so I'll be disappointed if the rumor of a greatly degraded Air Print turns out to be true.
