Convert an iMac to VGA monitor?

Is it possible to convert the monitor that's in an iMac (CRT) to a VGA monitor? The reason I ask is that it woud be a really inexpensive way to "upgrade" an old iMac, reusing a perfectly good monitor, keyboard, and mouse with the Mac mini. At $500, it would be a lot cheaper than a processor upgrade or an eMac…

By cheaper, I mean I'd have to upgrade from 64 mb, processor upgrade, plus maybe even an hd upgrade (old ones only had 10 GB?)…by going to a mini, you'd get all of that PLUS have a system that's in warranty…
