Guys,

I'm keen to buy a new Apple TV, the only thing holding me back slightly at the moment is that I don't know how to connect an optical audio out to my speakers with a standard 3.5mm audio connector.

Could somebody point me in the right direction for a working adapter? There seem to be a lot of adapters on google that will convert Toslink to digital 3.5mm, doesn't sound quite right to me?

I'd only buy an ATV if I can use it to stream audio to my standard speakers as well, not just to my TV. So it's a bit of a show-stopper for me if I can't do it inexpensively.

Cheers,

Fabian

If you want good sound, you need a good digital to analog converter.

I am looking at a device called DacMagic by Cambridge Audio. It looks pretty good.

A cheap device will have a cr@p DAC.

The other alternative is to get a receiver or amplifier with optical in.

Thanks netdog, will have a look at DacMagic, but it might be blowing the budget a bit.
