The warning is a bit old. It should now be warning against 4.1 for unlockers and 4.2 for everybody.

Hello, my brother just bought an Iphone 3GS with 4.0.2 on it. Can it be unlocked and jailbroken? I was looking on my phone in cydia and it has some sort of warning about updating to 4.0.2 Any help greatly appreciated!!!
