Apple today updated its homepage with an announcement teasing a major iTunes-related announcement to made tomorrow at 10:00 AM Eastern time.
Tomorrow is just another day.
That you'll never forget.

Check back here tomorrow for an exciting announcement from iTunes.
There have been no specific hints as to what the announcement might entail, but Apple has of course long been rumored to be moving to a cloud-based iTunes where users' music would be stored on Apple's servers and streamed to a variety of Internet-connected devices. Apple has also been rumored to be working on a subscription-based music service that would complement the existing pay-per-download service.

Either of those services could be supported by Apple's massive new data center in North Carolina that is set to go online by the end of the year.

My first thought was this was 90 second song previews, but that can't be (the only) thing they announce tomorrow, because the letter Apple allegedly sent to labels said they would be extending preview lengths for US customers, and this teaser has international clocks. (UPDTATE: Gizmodo has pointed out that despite the international clocks, the teaser is only on the US site right now. Interesting...)

Facebook integration for Ping is a possibility, but just maybe they will announce iTunes Streaming.

Also, I don't recall having ever seen Apple post a teaser for a web announcement before. That makes me excited!

I love there PR i wish i came up with such snappy lines! And i can't wait to see whats up! P.S. im glad its at 10 am our time instead of 10am california time it always feels like the east coast is always waiting all day for an announcement!

just saw this when i clicked on safari...the apple page is still my homepage.
somewhat exciting.

Oooooo I can't wait!!!! Any announcement from apple makes my insides feel all funny.

Hmm.. if it is cloud based iTunes or a streaming service, it's going to have to be very competitively priced for me to cancel my Spotify Premium subscription.. £10 a month for as much music as I can listen to is hard to beat!

Are those things that would make for a day you'll never forget?

It has to be much bigger, something that will last for a long time, and be somewhat revolutionary...like when the iPhone came out, was probably the kind of day that you won't forget. Cloud streaming might satisfy those requirements...

Nothing on the UK site, despite the London clock on the announcement. Maybe it's something else entirely US-centric.

That said, this isn't just 90-second previews. It can't be, there's no way Apple will milk that this much or regard it as "a day you'll never forget". It has to be something big, a game changer. iTunes Cloud, or something else on that scale that we simply didn't see coming.

So this announcement is big enough to take Apple's homepage up, but not big enough to warrant a keynote...

90 Second Song Previews is definitely happening... but what else?

Subscription service is the easy guess, but part of me thinks that's keynote material.

Perhaps iOS 4.2? But that's definitely not big enough to warrant homepage placement.

This is uncharted territory... I can't remember Apple ever preparing to announce something like this. Who knows what's in store.

Yes, I think the inclusion of international clocks is key. This is not going to be some usual U.S-only iTunes announcement that will eventually reach other countries. This appears to be a worldwide change.

I hope it's some kind of streaming subscription service, but i'm not holding my breath.

I love Apple PR.

What could be important enough to tease on their home page and not important enough to warranty an event?
(I assume there will be no event at 7am Cupertino time)

yep, cloud service like grooveshark. I just hope they make it as cheap. and available on android devices :D

I always like how Apple does it's marketing announcements. Usually cryptic and unexpected. It's like watching a really good keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat movie. :D
