Well... My buddy and I just finished swapping the airport card for a mini pci-e sata card in his 2008 Imac and all is well. Unfortunately, we could not get it to show or mount anywhere on mine (2010). We tried everything. We loaded the raid drivers and the none raid. We tried both cards (his and mine) in my machine and still nothing. His Imac mounted his ssd immediately after installing the drivers. Could it be that the new logic boards do not support this type of card? Is there a special driver that I need for the i7? I was hoping this would add 2 more sata ports. Any help would be welcome.

That's what you get for opening up the iMac (which is not user configurable) and messing with what our leader Mr. Jobs has provided for us;)

You should have bought a Mac Pro and Cinema Display if you wanted to start playing with the computer's insides.

YOU shouldn't waste a post.

Back on topic tho... What card did you use? I have been considering doing the same mod. I am wired up via ethernet and do not use my airport at all. Ive also already used my second available internal sata port for a dual hard drive setup so ESATA would be quite useful.

does the card show up in about this mac / more info? i'm guessing it would be under airport or maybe under pci cards. you can compare the results with your buddys working system.

the other thing you could do is look at the console for the events that occur during boot- again comparing your buddys working boot process with yours.

what you might find is that the hardware is recognised (about...mac/more info) but the drivers aren't loading for some reason (console events)

try that and post back

Hi,

did you manage to get it to work. I have the same problem. None of the drivers from Siliconimage site work?

All bootleg esata solutions have varying degrees of success in the iMac. I have heard some drives wont show up unless they are connected and on when the machine powers up. Did you try that?

can you give us read/write data rates of the SSD of 2008 iMac?

I try to figure out since some days if I can put one on my mini pci-e slot in iMac (early 2006)
