Turning AirPort off automatically if disconnected from VPN?

How could I make AirPort turn off automatically when my macbook is disconnected from the VPN I use?? I use my macbook with an academic network and it's annoying when it's disconnected and internet traffic is still being sent; it defeats the purpose of the VPN.
