Looking to upgrade from 2008 MB to new 15" MBP
I currently have a white early 2008 MB, 2.4Ghz processor, 2Gb RAM and 250GB HDD which I do a lot of writing on and some Matlab work.
I'd like to get an i5 15" MBP with the hi-res screen mainly for the better battery and screen res. In terms of the added RAM and newer cpu, how much of an improvement will it be? Also I'll be able to get an HE discount on it.

My simulations run for about 2hrs on average.
One reason I'm thinking about going for one before 2011 is the VAT increase in the UK. Edit: And to a broader extent, I'm also considering it as a desktop replacement for my Win 7 PC.
