I've seen this posted here but there weren't really any conclusions on this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/710750/ and from searching the rest of the internet it seems like a lot of people are having this kind of problem.

Anyway, The Sims 3 crashes every time after no more than 30 min of gameplay, sometimes even within a few minutes of launch. So far, based on what I've read around the web, any one of these could be the problem:

-The Sims 3 is a 32-bit program and can't use more than 2GB of RAM, therefore if it exceeds 2GB, it will close.
-Time Machine being on during gameplay (I tried turning it off, no success)
-Setting graphics too high (set most to medium and some even low, no dice)
-computer gets too hot and shuts down (I've tried smcFan Control, Fan Control, and iCyclone to boost fans but none of them worked)

Any help would be great, it's pretty frustrating not being able to use something you've paid for.
