I am in need of a tower setup to host my itunes library and some external hard drives. I placed an ad on CL and was offered a G4 MDD 1.42 with a 23" adc display for $200. I think this will work out well for what I need and it seems like a fair price. I need some opinions from you guys who know better than me. Thanks.

That may work, however you are stuck using IDE drives with a max of 120GB per drive for internals. Not sure how externals would work, although you could find a USB 2.0 PCI card.

I don't think the 1.42ghz dual is limited by the 120gb hard drive, however it is ide. Also, I am pretty sure that it has usb 2.0 and FW 400 support. I could be wrong though.

If it is 1.42GHz dual it is not an MDD, it is FW800. No biggy of a deal about the size of the IDE hard drive, I have 250Gb on mine. It doesn't have a USB 2.0 port but it had FW400 and FW800. You can always find a good USB 2.0 PCI expansion card, find for the ones that ha NEC chip on it. That is a good deal considering it comes with a 23" ACD. Bump up the memory up to 2 Gb and you are more than good.
$200 is a good price for that machine if the memory and hard drive is upgraded. I think the 23" ACDs still go for that price alone. Is is the acrylic one or aluminum one?

It will have firewire 400 and depending on model it may have a firewire 800 port as well. I doesn't however, have USB 2.0, it has USB 1.1. The Powermac G5 was the first Apple Tower to have USB 2.0. This could easily be remedied with a rather inexpensive USB 2.0 PCI card. Before you buy one though check around to see which ones are Mac compatible (some may be even if they don't explicitly list it).
200usd is more than fair. Check ebay and the selling price still reaches more than 300 bucks... I got mine for more than 200 bucks off ebay, with USB 2 expansion card. I bought a 22" ACD (acrylic) just for the setup to be authentic. And I am happy with it, I mean more than happy.
If you want to use the machine for your iTunes library, then you're going to find yourself stuck on those IDE drives. Capacity is the big problem. If you can add a SATA card, or make sure you can connect USB drives, then you should be ok, but just make sure you can before you splash out and buy the machine.
