Hi all,

Just added a 4.8 GHz i7-2600k folding -bigadv (~ 49000 ppd) to my MacRumors contribution.

This is being helped by:

3.8 GHz i7-860 folding -smp 7 -bigadv ~ 22000 ppd
2.8 GHz i7-860 folding -smp 6 ~ 8000 ppd
3* GTX 460 ~ 32000 ppd combined
1* GTX 430 ~ 4000 ppd

All running in wine under Ubuntu 10.04

Hopefully I can maintain a reasonably stable 100k ppd, at least until the weather gets warmer when the graphics cards will have to stop.

And all that hardware for less than a souped up iMac...

Yeah, it's silly isn't it...

I look at the latest iMacs and can almost convince myself to upgrade from my 2.4GHz C2D iMac, but it's still fine for daily use and the cash buys so much more horsepower elsewhere.
However, if Apple put a decent nvidia card and an i7 2600 in the next 27 inch revision I'll be sold!

Droooll....
Those 2600ks are pretty tempting. Was it hard to get to 4.8ghz?

Ridiculously easy!
I just set the multiplier to 48, core voltage to 1.35, everything else on auto and it just worked!
4.4GHz worked with stock voltages (the chips automatically over-volt themselves up to a point using a dynamic Vid)
I've since had to increase Vcore to 1.37 and Vtt to 1.21 to get the RAM to 1600.

However, i couldn't get any faster without much higher voltages (and heat!) - 4.9GHz required 1.5V. I think later bios versions with PLL over-volting work better, but I'm stuck with the old bios until Gigabyte release a Q-Flash version or I can work out how to do it in Linux.

nice! thanks for sharing that! it's nice to see what hardware people are folding with.

i am having trouble with another system now after the move. my last overclock isn't working now for some reason, so back to square 1 again. hopefully i can get it back up again.

Hmmm, twoodcc, you're just behind me as the # 17 contributor of our team... Don't think that will last long. There goes my #10 spot in a couple of days

Yes, you will get there as long as you use your passkey.
Now that you get you are getting the bonus, just wait a week for the daily average to even out. Your current avg PPD is still being calculated from before you started getting the bonus.

however i installed ubuntu on the other 3.06ghz pc and well lets say that folding doesn't like it ... so i am now installing open Suse... so far so good ...

well the best advice i can give you is to tell us every step that you take. we need to know what client you downloaded, how you installed/run it.

a lot of us use the terminal (console) client. it gives you more control over it. but you don't have to use it.

If I am not mistaken, the Macross should be (or already did) finishing a -bigadv unit bringing me into the 1 Million point range... *FINALLY*

Nope, not yet, you still have to do 26,000 points, so a little over 2 days

Yeah I had my computer shut down for the weekend but it's back up and running right now. I lost out on over 100K+ .

I might build another computer as I have a i7 920 laying around and maybe I can run another bigadv client. I'm also looking to purchase a home soon so I may be in a out a bit while I get re-situated into my new place. I also can't be spending too much on computer goodies

Thanks. Put my offer in on one so hopefully it gets accepted.

I'm sitting on 48-9k PPD right now. 950 @ 4ghz and 1750mhz on the shaders of the 460. Not too shabby.

**Edit**
Updated the Nvidia drivers to 266 and now the GTX 460s are both folding at 15K + each. That's an increase of 3-4k PPD each.

Guess I'll be overtaken in the next couple of days... On the other hand, I just noted that your output is less then a couple of day ago. So it will take another week before you overtake me!

well good luck with the house. if the offer isn't accepted, stand your ground! don't agree to a higher price! they will come down eventually

that's a nice upgrade! now just add that 920 @ 4ghz and you'll be smokin!

Was moved to get back into DC recently after a long absence. Not adding anything too significant, but I still like contributing. (note that only the first two are actually mine, the rest I just have access to)

-MBP 13" 2.53 C2D (my main computer, gets used for lots of other things including video work so it's not exactly a rapid contributor right now)

-AMD X2 64 4600+ [2.4] (my 6 year old pc in a Shuttle chassis, haven't gotten around to building a new one yet, only has a 7900 series gpu so no gpu folding unfortunately)

-i7 iMac (the quad core sleeper)

-base i3 iMac

I also have access to two 2.0 C2D MacBooks but they probably aren't worth utilizing because of their sporadic use patterns combined with their relatively low speed.

I also have a PS3 which I would use if it was possible for it to fold in the background while playing games, watching movies, etc. But apparently that's not possible.

As far as a new PC goes, I'm torn between spending money on the PC or [more money] on a new 15" MBP whenever the next gen comes out.

Also I feel like I came up with a rather ingenious idea for keeping track of all of the computers' progress (from anywhere). I used a combination InCrease and Dropbox. All of the computers have Dropbox installed on them, and each computer except for the main one has a separate folder all of its own in the Dropbox folder where F@H lives for that machine. These folders are then added to InCrease for monitoring. That way whenever the log file or queue file or whatever is updated, it's immediately synced to the main computer and shows up in InCrease. That way even if I'm traveling and I want to check and see what the boxen are doing at home, I can. And it's all seamless. I'm actually pretty proud of myself for having the idea haha
