I just got a G5 iMac with 512mb of ram and when i checked the ram bus through Teminal:
copy/paste
ioreg -p IODeviceTree -n memory -S | grep ram-
if the results come up with
"ram-layout-architecture" = <00000002>
then you have 64 bit bus size
if the results are
"ram-layout-architecture" = <00000001>
then you have 128 bit bus size.
Having only one chip causes you to have 64 bit, while
having 2 identical chips (i.e. 2x512 or 2x1gb) you will
then have a 128 bit bus which i think gives you faster peformance.
I just got 2 samsung 1gb ddr400 pc3200 chips for $249 a piece and
installed them and i feel a difference in the iMac now.
