Spotlight on SL Server = Sucks?
This has been bugging me for years on the old Leopard Server.
Now that were on SL, its still there :P
Why doesnt Spotlight work right with local and server side searches?
I mean Ive done tests by making unique files to search and still I cant find it even in the root of where I search.
I dont get why the Search options kicks in and out of Contents/File name either :P
My basic test is this:
1. Mount a share volume residing on XServe. Everything on e.g. spotlight, perms.
2. Do a Command + F to get search window up. Ive tested this with mounted volume as start point as well as from Desktop.
3. Do a basic search for a doc that resides on both local and server side. Somedays this works but most of the time it doesnt. And dont even get me started with filenames. This is brutal at times. I dont dare even type the exact case and spelling cause Ive had times where it wont see it :P
I just dont get this? Ive given up a few times but now that Im dealing with two XServes (SL and Leopard Server), a dozen MacPros and 32TB of data across a mix for XRAID and G-Tech XL RAIDS, doing a basic function as "Search" should not take me away from real world problems :P
