Well, it was the thread that was being run when the machine crashed. Assuming your only using this for legal torrents of open source software or similar, then find a different torrent client, otherwise Id suggest you purchase your software like the few of us who do believe the people who create this stuff deserve something (It also annoys me that the cost of stuff like CS5 is so stratospherically high because they have to make up for 60 people per paid license torrenting the thing, but thats another discussion altogether)

No, you exceeded the amount of connections the computer Can handle at once.

Exceeded the amount of connections the computer can handle? I'm not sure what you mean?
I'm really surprised a rogue program can take down OS X, I thought it was more robust than that. |

At most that system is 5 and a bit. That G5 is a Late 2005 model. (Launch: October '05, Discontinued: August '06), but your point still stands - the older a Mac gets, the higher the chance of it falling over (For instance my Mac Pro is stable now, but give it 5 years of OS upgrades it may well not be 100% rock solid).

But if its software that's the problem, then what difference does the age make?
Tbh, its my main computer but I pretty much only use it to update my iDevices and store photo's in iPhoto, so I'm not being too precious about it. I'm just really surprised that OS X can crash from running a program (had a mac for 5-6 years). I mean it's not XP. I didn't think that was possible. So what's actually going wrong? How can a buggy app make it crash so easily? |

Quote:
2) Age matters as when platforms are new, they tend to be in better system health (As the OS Install ages and goes thru upgrades sometimes instabilities can be introduced - such as the QuickTime upgrade that Broke After Effects - an example of not everything Apple does being perfect). 3) It is a lot better than XP - The longest Ive had an XP Install last (excluding the install I use for testing which generally lasts 36hrs before my code kills it) is 2 years before a crash. Longest Ive had a Mac Last is probably my PowerBook G4, which is coming up to 6-years Kernel Panic free. Touch wood.
