Magic Mouse Induction charger

I've now had the Mobee induction charger for a few days and wanted to share my thoughts with you all. I got this because by MM was eating batteries like crazy. Although inserting the replacement battery cartridge wasn't as easy as it looks, after a few minutes of fiddling, it finally snapped into place and is just a hair short of being completely flush with the housing. This is not a problem and I found no difference in the feel. The induction charger plugs into a USB port and will remain active while the computer is in sleep mode. It utilizes NiMH batteries which have a lower voltage then alkaline so when fully charged OS X shows a 65-75% charge level. Mouse can sit in any position on the charger and there is an indicator light to tell you it's charging or fully charged. So far after a few days it's been great. Use without charging wears similar to alkaline; recharging seems relatively reasonable (although I can't give exact time since I put my baby on sleep and went down for dinner. When I returned, MM was fully charged) I'm pretty happy with this product since I won't be scrounging for batteries anytime soon. :):) (PS excuse quality of pictures. I used my blackberry)

If it wouldn't be so expensive.
I have 2MM und would have to pay 80EUR.
I can get a lot of rechargable batteries for that money.
I have to switch every second month. Not worth the money in my case.
30EUR and 15 for each battery pack would make me weak :)
 
For half the price I bought the Apple battery charger and six batteries. In my opinion, much beter value for money and my keyboard is maintained as well plus no extra wires on the desktop! :)

Alternatively just buy a charger from Maplins, supplied with 4 x batteries and costs £6.99. What's the difference? It doesn't have an Apple logo on it which seems to translate in being able charge a premium for what is a basic product.

By the way, thanks for the OP's opinions on the induction charger - at least this is a sexier product, albeit slightly overpriced, but if it resolves a problem for you then fair enough.

I did the same thing. Pretty sure they arent that much of a mark up as well, considering they are eneloops.
 
I use the 'Varta 15 minute charge and go' battery system for everything from my mouse and key board to my camera and wii remotes. It was relatively expensive at $40 AU for the charger and two batteries plus $16 AU for each set of four batteries you want to add on but the 15 minutes charge time can't be beat.

I haven't had my iMac long enough to say how long they will last in the MM but I used to change them once every two months in my logitech mouse.

Update: I've now been using this charger for about 6 weeks. I know the comments about the cost and using rechargeable batteries at half the cost, but honestly, what a pleasure it's been to never have my mouse die of power or have to remember to charge batteries. Every once and a while I put the mouse on the induction charger. If you can swallow the $50 price tag, you should get a great deal of convenience. Kind of surprised Apple didn't come up with this one - like building an induction charger into the stand.
 
I bought one directly from them and received it fairly promptly. It didn't work, so I fiddled with it for about a half hour. Finally I got the little green light on the mouse to come on, but once I got it to work, it losses power about every 5-10 minutes. I have contacted them several times over the past four weeks and have heard nothing back from them as of yet. So far, the product sucks AND the service sucks, If I do eventually hear back from them, I will post it here. It's a good thing there is NO PHONE # anywhere on their site... otherwise I would be calling them up and bitching.... A LOT. That's a ton of $$ for a battery!
 
i long avoided the magic mouse because of the ridiculous power consumption not to mention the overall design , but as soon as this induction charger came on the market i ordered a Magic mouse and the induction charger , god is that great , it works perfect , no worries any more about empty batteries using it now since 4 weeks and totally happy about the induction charger

ok still not getting used to the magic mouse , either i get cramps in my fingers or i click and tap all over the screen without sense , maybe another couple month to get used to handling the mouse without having to amputate some unnecessary fingers to operate it

While I don't have the issue of discharge loss as you stated, I do agree that service response time sucks. I wrote to them several times about what appeared to be a failure to reflect refreshed battery level after charging. I figured out on my own that you needed to turn the mouse off then on again in order to show the current battery level. Ironically, only after I figured it out did the company respond with the same info about turning the mouse off and on. I think these folks have a great product but really need to work on their customer service.

I realize this is going to be a resurrection BUT I think it should be said that the small app MagicPref can adjust the areas that are touch activated. I currently have it set so ONLY the middle part of the Magic Mouse can achieve a scroll, while touching just above the Apple logo will launch Mission Control. Check it out... lots of customization!
